Ellen Chea: A Journey of Passion, Perseverance, and Success

Ellen Chea’s story is a testament to the power of passion, resilience, and unwavering determination. As the founder and CEO of House of Queens and Kings, she has turned a childhood dream into a thriving fashion empire. From crafting doll clothes in Liberia to establishing her brand in the prestigious Mall of America, Ellen’s journey is an inspiring blueprint for anyone striving to turn their vision into reality.

Her love for fashion began at an early age. In Liberia, she experimented with designing outfits for her dolls and creating bespoke pieces for herself. After moving to the United States, her bold and vibrant African-inspired designs quickly captured attention. Strangers would stop to admire her outfits, igniting the realization that her talent could become a business. “I started selling my designs within my community,” Ellen recalls. “It was a leap of faith, but I believed in my vision.”

Launching her business in Brooklyn Center, Minnesota, was no easy feat. As a single mother of five, Ellen juggled parenting, a full-time job, and the growing demands of her fashion enterprise. Long hours and limited resources tested her resolve. “There were days I worked double shifts—running my store in the morning and answering customer inquiries during breaks,” she shares. But she never allowed obstacles to define her journey.

One of her biggest challenges was financing her business. With no formal business training, she relied on personal savings and learned valuable lessons about financial management and preparation along the way. Her perseverance paid off in 2019 when she reached a major milestone—opening a House of Queens and Kings store in the prestigious Mall of America.

Ellen’s designs embody her heritage and philosophy. Her creations celebrate modesty, elegance, and individuality, ensuring that every piece is truly one-of-a-kind. “I want my clients to feel confident and unique,” she says. “Exclusivity is the hallmark of my brand.”

For aspiring designers, Ellen offers invaluable advice: “Passion is your foundation. Surround yourself with mentors, embrace learning, and build your business on strong principles like proper bookkeeping and teamwork.”

Today, House of Queens and Kings stands as a symbol of empowerment, creativity, and success. Ellen Chea’s story reminds us that with vision, grit, and determination, we can rise above challenges and reign supreme in our own pursuits.
