Minnesota Attorney General’s Office named top employer for veterans for 2nd year in a row

VETS Indexes 4 Star Employer Award highlights AG Ellison’s commitment to hiring, retaining, and supporting veterans

AGO also named a top workplace by both the Star Tribune and USA Today for 4th year in a row

April 10, 2025 (SAINT PAUL) — Attorney General Ellison announced today that, for the second year in a row, the Minnesota Attorney General’s Office has been recognized as a 4 Star Employer in the 2025 VETS Indexes Employer Awards – one of the program’s very highest distinctions – because of the office’s strong commitment to recruiting, hiring, retaining, developing, and supporting veterans and the military-connected community.

When reviewing and selecting employers for the VETS Indexes Employer Awards, VETS Index analyzes employers’ policies, practices, and outcomes in detail, across the following five categories:

  • Veteran job candidate recruiting and hiring
  • Veteran employee development and retention
  • Veteran-inclusive policies and culture
  • Support for members of the National Guard and Reserves
  • Military spouse/family support

“When the Attorney General’s Office is staffed by bright and talented people from different backgrounds and walks of life, including military veterans, all Minnesotans benefit from the diverse array of perspectives, skills, and lived experiences that they bring to the table,” said Attorney General Ellison. “I am grateful to the veterans on our staff for both serving our nation in uniform and then serving the people of Minnesota in our work to help folks afford their lives and live with dignity, safety, and respect. I am committed to continuing our efforts to make the Attorney General’s Office the best workplace possible for our veterans.”

The Minnesota Attorney General’s Office has multiple employee resource groups (ERG), which provide support, resources, and professional development opportunities to participating staff members. The office’s Veterans ERG works to empower veterans and their allies through shared experiences, building a sense of community that supports veteran issues, and fostering a more inclusive and understanding workplace. The Veterans ERG has:

  • Connected veterans with other veterans and mentors within our office
  • Created opportunities for veterans to connect and build relationships
  • Provided resources and professional development opportunities for veterans
  • Organized volunteer activities to support veterans in our community
  • Helped our office attract and retain veterans

“The Office of the Minnesota Attorney General has demonstrated exceptional support for veterans and the military-connected community, earning the organization one of the most prestigious awards possible in the VETS Indexes Employer Awards program,” said George Altman, president of VETS Indexes.

“Even as more organizations than ever before are recognizing the uniquely valuable skills that veterans bring as employees, the efforts of the Office of the Minnesota Attorney General to recruit, retain, develop, and support those who served, as well as their families, stand out from the pack,” added Altman. “The Office of the Minnesota Attorney General is among the very best veteran employers, and its program can serve as a model for others.”

The Attorney General’s Office was also named a 4 Star Employer by VETS Index in 2024. Additionally, the Attorney General’s Office has been named a top workplace for the last four years in a row by both the Star Tribune and USA Today.
