The management of Voices Magazine LLC regrets the unscrupulous shooting that resulted in the murder of former Speaker of the Minnesota House of Representatives, Rep. Melissa Hortman, and her husband, Mark, and the wounding of Minnesota Senator John Hoffman and his wife, Yvette. What appears to be a highly politically motivated act has caused a deep wound in our community. Both lawmakers have been champions in ensuring that every Minnesotan has the opportunity to lead a better life in a state that offers so much.
Senator Hoffman was recently honored and received the Distinguished Recognition Award for leadership and service to the African Heritage community at the 10th Annual Voices Magazine Award held at the Mosaic Event Center in downtown Minneapolis. We extend our heartfelt condolences to the family of Rep. Hortman and speedy recovery and well wishes to Sen. Hoffman and his wife. As law enforcement agencies continue to search for the culprit(s), we caution our community to remain steadfast and join every effort to bring to justice anyone responsible for these crimes.
