Christine Nsajja’s journey to becoming a successful attorney in the United States is a remarkable testament to the power of resilience and perseverance. Originally from Jinja, Uganda, Christine faced numerous challenges as she navigated the complexities of immigrating to the U.S. and establishing her own law practice. Her story is one of overcoming obstacles, defying expectations, and giving back to her community.
Christine’s path to law started in Uganda, where she attended boarding schools from the age of 6 and later pursued a law degree at Makerere University in Kampala. After completing her studies, she took the Uganda Bar exam in 1998 and passed. However, her journey truly began when she moved to the U.S. in 1999 to continue her education. At Hamline University in St. Paul, Minnesota, Christine earned her LLM (Master’s in Law) in 2000, followed by a Juris Doctor (JD) in 2003. She passed the Minnesota Bar Exam in 2005, officially becoming a licensed attorney.
One of the biggest hurdles Christine faced as an immigrant was the challenge of maintaining her immigration status while studying in the U.S. As an international student, she found herself struggling with tuition fees, living expenses, and the isolation that many immigrants experience. Despite these challenges, Christine remained focused on her goal of becoming an attorney. She credits her upbringing in Uganda, including the discipline and self-reliance she learned at boarding school, for helping her navigate these difficult times.
Christine’s career took off when she opened Nsajja Law Firm in 2008. The firm initially focused on serving the Latino immigrant community in Minnesota, a demographic that was underserved in terms of legal representation. As her practice grew, Christine became known for her work in immigration law, particularly in helping individuals and families navigate the complexities of the U.S. immigration system. Her ability to relate to her clients’ struggles—having experienced many of the same challenges herself—has been one of the keys to her success.
Christine’s approach to practicing law is deeply rooted in her personal values of humility, empathy, and integrity. She believes that helping her clients navigate their immigration issues is not just a job but a calling. “There is nothing more beautiful than helping people get that green card,” she says. For her, every successful case is a victory not just for her clients but for her as well.
