Isaac Owens has long been a pillar of leadership within the Ghanaian community in Minnesota, and his recent appointment as President of the Ghana Association of Minnesota (GhanAM) marks a new chapter in his journey of service to his people. With a rich history of leadership in the community, Isaac continues to serve others through his tireless efforts to uplift those around him.
Isaac’s leadership story began when he moved to the U.S. and quickly immersed himself in community activities. He served on the board of the Central Minnesota Sustainability Project (CMSP), helping to create connections between people and communities in Central Minnesota. As board chair, Isaac focused on building relationships that helped the organization thrive. He later worked on establishing the African Correlation Network, which continues to play a key role in connecting African immigrants in Minnesota with resources and opportunities.
In addition to his work with CMSP, Isaac was deeply involved in the Minnesota African Task Force Against Ebola during the 2014 outbreak. Isaac worked with other community leaders to provide critical information and resources to the West African communities affected by the Ebola crisis. His leadership during this time showcased his ability to rally people in times of crisis and his commitment to the health and safety of his community.
As President of GhanAM, Isaac Owens has set clear goals to support Ghanaian nationals in Minnesota and beyond. He is dedicated to maintaining Ghanaian heritage, supporting community growth, and building bridges between the Ghanaian community and the broader Minnesota community. His leadership is rooted in his belief in servant leadership—putting the needs of others first and working to help those who need it most. Under his leadership, GhanAM aims to provide resources and support to the Ghanaian community while also fostering stronger relationships with other Minnesotans of African heritage.
Isaac’s impact extends beyond the Ghanaian community. He is also involved in various community and civic engagement initiatives and serves as a member of the Books For Africa Ambassador Circle. His work continues to inspire countless individuals in Minnesota and abroad.
