Vaccines are the best way to protect your child from preventable diseases. Children are exposed to thousands of germs every day, and vaccines help their immune system learn how to fight those germs. Many parents may be thinking about getting their kids vaccinated against flu and COVID-19 to keep them safe and healthy this fall and winter. If you’re thinking of getting your child vaccinated but are concerned about cost, Minnesota has a program that provides free or low-cost vaccines for eligible kids.

The Minnesota Vaccines for Children (MnVFC) program provides free or low-cost vaccines for children in Minnesota who are uninsured, enrolled in a Minnesota Health Care Program (MHCP) like Medical Assistance (MA) or MinnesotaCare, or children who are American Indian or Alaska Natives. This federal program has been around for 30 years and has prevented over 1 million deaths throughout the country.

Approximately half of Minnesotan children are eligible. Over 750 health care providers in Minnesota are enrolled to provide MnVFC vaccines. Call your child’s health care provider today and ask about free vaccines. To learn more about the program and to find MnVFC providers near you visit: Free or Low-Cost Shots for Children (https://www.health.state.mn.us/people/immunize/basics/howpay.html).
